One Song
Featuring Jess Hitchcock & Paul Grabowsky
One Song celebrates Gunditjmara and Bundjalong Senior Elder Archie Roach, who told stories through song of both trauma and hope for more than three decades, generating a legacy songbook of incredible import.
In association with the Archie Roach Foundation, vocalist Jess Hitchcock (an artist Archie championed) joins band members Sam Anning and Stephen Magnusson to keep the fire burning through a symphonic lens, created by close collaborator composer/pianist Paul Grabowsky – culminating with One Song, the lead and only single from his compilation album My Songs: 1989-2021.
“One Song’ takes up the idea that we have mapped our journey as human beings across the oceans and lands of the world through song, that we have sung the world into existence, into meaning, and that the common thread of song links back to an origin, to the birth song of all things.”
“When I think about creation story, I think about everybody – we were all created from One Song.”
This performance is made possible with the support of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
