We invite you to our stunning coastal bushland venue known as Nature’s Concert Hall.
Four Winds Easter Festival is a truly inspiring experience, one that elevates all the senses and creates harmony between us and the natural world, drawing us together in community, in music.
The Four Winds
Live Music in Nature
Four Winds’ Easter Festival attracts international musicians, classical and avant-garde composers, it presents world premieres, Aboriginal stories and dance, commissions and is a multi-faceted sonic experience, where nature plays her part.
Focussed around the south coast village of Bermagui, the Festival is a multi-day event has at its heart two extraordinary, full days of live music presented at Four Winds’ outdoor venue the Sound Shell.
This celebration of live music has grown to include house concerts, community events, workshops, musical installations and many orchestral manoeuvres in the bush.
Two days in the
Leaning back on the lawns of the Sound Shell natural amphitheatre, senses open to the musical and ecological soundscape, the audience soaks up layers of spectacular musicianship, artistic collaborations, occasional birdsong and breezes in the surrounding trees. It is as soothing visually as it is aurally; shadows and light move across the white sails of the Sound Shell which float above the stage, backdropped by still water, orchestras and voices project around the bush site.
Concerts in the Windsong Pavillion
Intimate concerts and recitals are presented in the beautiful Windsong Pavilion, a performance space of profound acoustic expression. Structurally mimetic of the surrounding spotted gums, the space invites nature to flow into its oak lined hall, the huge glass doors opening out to the surrounding bush. This is the space where audiences experience up-close and personal performances from composers, pianists, string ensembles, singers, didgeridoo players, storytellers… the list is endless.
“This is a place that musicians dream of… beautiful, unspoilt, developed with such sensitivity… where the audience wants you to experiment and demands you play at your best, and play with them. We want to spread this around the world!”
One can also follow the trail of Four Winds’ signature House Concert program. Held in some of the most delightful local private homes, gardens and spaces scattered throughout this ocean-fringed region, each concert is an opportunity to discover exquisite musicianship in unique and intimate settings, and always the delicious food, views and hospitality of our spectacular coast.
Much of Bermagui Village comes alive for the Easter Festival’s free community performances, and there are workshops and music installations all waiting to be discovered around the Four Winds site and nearby towns. Stories, song, environmental and cultural knowledge from our Yuin people, weave through the music and deepen the experience, as do performances by our younger, aspiring musicians.
As well as an immersion in music and nature, audiences always enjoy spectacular food and wine, our famous oysters and dairy from local producers, and the welcoming hospitality of our legendary Four Winds volunteer family. Beach shacks, camping or elegant apartments await you, clear waters and pools, long stretches of sand, all are nearby and all your needs are fulfilled.
“It was a very special experience for me, to have the privilege of playing for a different audience, attentive and colourful, sitting on grass steps… looking for real music experiences and not attending the exhausted ritual of a ‘normal concert’. An audience ready to react to the most important of the messages, how music talks to souls and bodies with no borders, no class, no race, no age, nothing… just music and living beings,”
